Indiana Polyclinic, on the Northside of Indianapolis, has been successfully treating patients with stem cells for a wide range of conditions for over a year.

Indianapolis, Indiana, February 5, 2018 – Indiana Polyclinic, a noted multidisciplinary facility dedicated to the relief of pain and emotional suffering, launched their innovative new stem cell treatment program in 2016.

“We are proud of our dedication to alleviating the pain and suffering of our patients, and our stem cell treatment program provides us with even more ways to achieve those goals,” explained Dr. Dmitry Arbuck, MD, President and Medical Director of Indiana Polyclinic.

Stem cell treatments have been possible for over two decades. The earliest work in the field was controversial mostly due to the use of embryonic tissue; however this practice was banned in our country long ago. Then came the harvest and processing of the patient’s (adult) stem cells from fat tissue and bone marrow; this is still used in many clinics, but is not ideal. Today, stem cells are obtained from the umbilical cord blood and cord wall of healthy newborns. This gives us the best quality stem cells and the best potential for a good outcome. While the therapies remain experimental, the FDA has approved these stem cells for use in humans.

Dr. Arbuck is most excited about the ability to treat a wide range of conditions. “Stem cells have almost limitless potential,” he explains. “They can be used to treat debilitating rheumatoid arthritis or a spinal cord injury. They can be used to alleviate the symptoms of autoimmune diseases, joint and muscle conditions, and even in traumatic brain injury and stroke.”

Currently, Indiana Polyclinic’s stem cell treatments are all categorized as experimental and investigational. As such, they are not covered by insurance plans, and patients should discuss treatment options with their primary care provider before deciding if stem cell therapy is the right course of action.
